Thank-You from More Than Me

Thanks to the efforts of every single person combined, More Than Me won the NBC Giving Awards on Friday night and won the grand prize of a million dollars which is going to helping more than a thousand young girls in Liberia get off of the streets, out of the slums and into schools where they will have the tools to make their dreams come true.

Dare to DREAM

To all of you who read my More Than Me posts, who voted and who shared them, for everyone who invested their energy into helping us win. Thank you. We all came together, thousands and thousands of us came together and really made it about more than any of us and that will go a long long way.

And the winner is… More Than Me! (photo c/o Frederick M. Brown, Getty Images All Rights Reserved)

Isn’t it amazing how much we can achieve when we all come together?

Now what else can we achieve? What else is possible?

Sending an abundance of love and light out to you all.

Calling ALL Bloggers!!

Greetings awesome bloggers!

voteabigail.org

It’s not very often that we have the opportunity to come together for a cause that’s bigger than us, bigger than blogging and can have a seriously positive domino effect in the lives of others.

I am fortunate enough to be working with More Than Me, an education and girls’ empowerment non-profit is gaining notoriety through its guerilla-style marketing, inspiring hundreds of people to write “I am Abigail” on their foreheads and posting the photos on Facebook.

This really begs the question, “Who the heck is Abigail?”

Abigail was an orphan in West Point, Liberia. You may have read her letter in a previous article in the Huffington Post. At six, she was left with prostitutes. She learned to work the streets in order to get access to drinking water and food. Education was not an option.

Then Abigail met Katie Meyler, the founder of More Than Me, an organization dedicated to getting girls off the streets and into schools. Katie and Abigail became fast friends, and More Than Me has raised the money to put Abigail through school. She is learning to bake, and aspires to one day be a Senator, so she can, in turn, help other girls like her.

So, why are all these people also “Abigail”?

Abigail could be you. Abigail could be your sister, your niece, your student, or your neighbor. Remember, we live in a global community; there is no “me” without “we”, Abigail is because you are, and you are because Abigail is.

I’m asking, no pleading, no telling you to join the community! When you’ve done that, help the community grow by spreading our story. And most of all, get inspired!

Take 15 seconds (yes, just 15 seconds) to make the lives of these girls a bit better by doing two very simple and extremely meaningful things: VOTE NOW through Dec. 4 for Abigail and girls like her at voteabigail.org and… then share it with others. (Maybe even by making your OWN “I am Abigail” picture!)

Thanks please let me know if you’re interested or have questions!
Pass it on! We need YOU fellow bloggers and all of your friends! Let’s make this happen and change the world a little!

I look forward to hearing from you and seeing what kind of a domino effect we can create!

Sending you all oodles of love and light!

Emotional Reactions and Interesting Points of View

Lots of things make me think. Events, situations, interactions, especially those that make me respond in a way that is different to the way I usually would.

There was a chain of events (sometimes it takes a chain for me to ask myself the questions needed to reflect). First there was a conversation with a friend. Then there was another conversation – this one I didn’t receive so well. Then there was the Weekly Photo Challenge theme – and it all came together (while having another conversation).

My photography. It’s something that’s incredibly precious to me. I see it as mine (this week’s photo challenge theme). It’s always been the way I express myself and the more I step into my photographer self, the more sensitive it is.

Throughout various conversations, whatever was being said hit a nerve. Good or bad, all interesting points of view created an emotional reaction.

It seems that I am incredibly guarded with this creative outlet I consider to be mine.

So… Where is the lesson in all of this?

Emotional reactions create unbalance. Balance is something I am working on acquiring. Detachment is needed here. I say detachment because the opinions of others are not things I need to live by. I do not need to hang on the every word of others. My art is my art and it is what it is. I do not need any validation.

If you take the good or bad, positive or negative connotations away from points of view, be it your point of view or that of others, then it is just an interesting point of view. Once it is an interesting point of view it is nothing more, nothing less. Herein lies the power of detachment.

If everything is an interesting point of view, I don’t need to have an emotional reaction which is really a waste of time and energy.

This is the lesson.

Stepping into your greatness requires a great deal of energy, time and focus. Emotional reactions take away from your energy. Points of view are just different ways of looking / perceiving / receiving something.

This is definitely something to remember, adding this to the other lessons and things to practice will make learning, growing and evolving that much easier.

Sending out a ripple of peace, love and light! Catch the ripple and pass it on!

Letting go and moving forward…

It’s been quite a while since I’ve posted here on Lessons Learned and it’s been nothing short of mind-blowing!

Since arriving back in Canada a month ago I’ve learnt a lesson pretty much every day. From healing personal issues right the way down to deciding to take my business into my own hands. I must say it’s been one of the busiest months ever! Let me start at the beginning.
They say you can’t run from your demons and I believe that to be true. I wouldn’t have said that trotting around the globe, following my dreams of travel and pushing my photographic passion was running away from anything until I came back and was knocked sideways by all of the feelings I left when I departed 3 years ago. I only saw that it was running when I returned and immediately wanted to flee again. Upon this huge realisation I decided to face it all and stay for as long as I needed to.
It is certainly not easy to face your inner darkness but in order to let go and move forward with balance and peace, it’s one of, if not the most important thing you can do for yourself. I’m not finished either. The more stones you turn over, the more stones you find underneath. But I will say one thing; with practice, it definitely becomes easier.
There are a few things that have helped me through this process: Exercise, especially exercising in nature, yoga, eating nourishing foods, focusing on my goals, surrounding myself with open minded people who love me, being around people I laugh with, and energy work. Lots and lots of energy work. Also, not forgetting quite a bit of quiet time, most importantly being honest with myself and allowing myself to be vulnerable and open to the process of healing. This sounds like a lot but it’s not, it just takes practice, dedication and awareness.
As the past month has gone by I’ve found myself being more balanced and having a sense of peace. Knowing that I am capable of doing whatever my mind can dream up and that the possibilities are endless.
I have a few projects underway now. My photography first and foremost. I am determined to make the most of my travels and all of the film negatives I came back with! That project has grown from a photography exhibition (which is in the works and coming soon) to starting my own business and exploring how I can work with youth and help them to learn about photography and explore their creativity.
I’m also learning how to use social networking sites to help me to promote myself and my business which is new territory for me since I’ve been resisting that for the longest time.
Since doing lots of energy work, from meditation, yoga, to Access Consciousness, I’ve taken a great interest in healing and I’m looking into where I can help others. Once given a gift I feel that it must be paid forward.
I am constantly learning, growing and reaching higher and higher. Always asking myself ‘what else is possible?’ and ‘can it get any better than this?!’. The most beautiful thing about it is the more I open myself up, the more wonderful opportunities present themselves to me.
This is truly an amazingly awesome time of change.
I want to end this post with a question to you. What else is possible?
Sending you all love and light.
Clare.
